About Better Informed World
We publish seven news sites, and every article on them links the sources it was written from.
The publications
- Clinical Observer covers health and medicine: clinical research, drug approvals and regulation, biotech companies, hospitals and health systems, public health.
- Venturist covers business for founders and operators: startups, funding rounds and acquisitions, markets and money, management practice, work and hiring.
- Five Nines covers enterprise technology for the people who run and buy it: cloud platforms, security and vulnerabilities, data and AI infrastructure, networking, vendor pricing and procurement, outages and incidents.
- Gadgetry covers consumer technology: phones, headphones and audio, games and consoles, smart home devices, laptops and wearables. Launches, prices, software updates and recalls.
- Sunday Best covers lifestyle: home and living, food and restaurants, travel, style and design, books and art, and the films, albums and performers that everyone is talking about. Entertainment industry news, the box office, the charts and club and electronic music are covered by Premiere Daily.
- West Wing Times covers the US federal executive branch: the White House and presidential actions, cabinet departments and federal agencies, regulations and the Federal Register, nominations and appointments, the federal workforce, contracts and spending, inspectors general and GAO reports. Not campaigns, Congress or the courts, except where they act on the executive branch.
- Premiere Daily covers film, television and music: studio and streaming releases, casting and production, the box office, the music industry and charts, album and single releases, electronic and dance music, tours and festivals, awards.
Each site has its own editors' addresses, its own correspondents and its own design. They share one process and one set of standards.
Where the facts come from
An article starts with reporting that is already public: news reports, regulators' notices, company filings, studies and official statements. The desk picks the stories that matter to a site's readers and collects the original reporting along with at least one corroborating source. A reporter then writes a new article from those facts, names each source where it is used, and links every source at the end.
Before an article is published, it is read against its sources and any claim that cannot be found in them is listed. One unsupported claim is enough to stop it. A separate check compares the wording with the sources and blocks anything that repeats a long run of their text. An article that fails is sent back for a rewrite of the sentences involved, gets two chances, and is then discarded.
When we are wrong
We fix the article and add a dated note at the end saying what changed. Each site keeps a corrections page. Write to the corrections address of the publication concerned, listed on the contact page.
Advertising
The sites carry advertising placed by Google, and some Gadgetry and Sunday Best articles earn a commission when a reader buys through a link. Those articles say so above the text. Advertisers have no say in what is written, and we publish no sponsored articles.
